International Seminar | Rural Voices: Energy Transition 101

August 28 - September 2

This international seminar will bring together 18 rural young people from across Europe, to discuss the topics of energy transition, especially in relation to wind and solar energy, and rural communities.

The seminar will take place between 28th of August and 2nd of September 2024 (arrival and departure days are included, the 4 working days are from the 29th of August until the 1st of September) in Manchester, United Kingdom.

The costs for accommodation, food and content will be covered by the organisers, and the travel costs will be reimbursed for maximum 500 euros per participant for the most economical travel options. There is no participation fee for this seminar.

The international seminar will have a follow up phase with grassroots activities taking place across Europe, supported by a sub-granting scheme, with the format of consultations at the local or regional level on the topics of the seminar and aiming to gather the inputs of more rural young people on what can rural youth do in the future.

Aims and objectives of the seminar are to:

  • Create a space for rural youth to voice their perspectives on energy transition across Europe.
  • Raise awareness and educate rural youth on the importance of energy transition and smart energy solutions, focusing on wind and solar energy.
  • Equip rural youth with the skills necessary to advocate for and implement energy transition initiatives in their local communities and organisations.
  • Promote active engagement and foster a sense of ownership and responsibility among rural youth towards sustainable energy practices and environmental conservation.

These aims and objectives ensure the project not only raises awareness and builds capacity but also fosters ongoing engagement and tangible action among rural youth towards energy transition and sustainable development.

The working methods will include interactive workshops to explore different aspects of the theme. Sessions will be based on non-formal education and youth participation by providing opportunities for participants to develop their skills and knowledge and share their experiences.

Participants must:

  • Be aged over 18 and under 30 years;
  • Be active within their own youth organisation/community;
  • Be interested in topics like energy transition and rural communities;
  • Must commit to taking action in the follow up phase through sub-granting scheme;
  • Be able to communicate in English;
  • Collect all original tickets, proof of payments and boarding passes to forward them to the organising team;
  • Be responsible for their own travel insurance; For EU citizens we advise to have the European health insurance card

Venue & Travel

Each participant is responsible for arranging their travels.The selected participants will be informed about the specifics of the reimbursement process via email. Participants will be asked to present their proof of travel and receipts/invoices to claim reimbursement. Please consider environmentally friendly options when arranging your travel.

We ask that all participants arrive to Manchester on Wednesday, 28th of August 2024 and depart on Monday, 2nd of September 2024.

Please note that travel reimbursements can only be paid on the following conditions:

  • Cheapest option of travel is used (second class train and bus, economy class flights etc.) and approved by the organising team before booking;
  • The participants are always following Rural Youth Europe’s Code of Conduct with Behavioural Guidelines and general rules;
  • All original tickets, proof of payments and boarding passes are submitted to the organising team by the date indicated in reimbursement email;
  • Please note that no travel reimbursement will be made unless ALL ORIGINAL travel documents are received by the date indicated in reimbursement email.

Selection process and confirmation of attendance

Deadline for the registration is 28th July 2024. Participants will be informed about the selection by 1st of August 2024. All registered participants will receive a participant’s information package with more details about the week, links and contacts by the end of July. Your place at the seminar will be guaranteed after the booked tickets confirmation.

The spots for the event are limited and participants will be accepted, based on the quality of application.

There is no participation fee for this activity. Travels will be reimbursed based on the average price of travel from the respective area in the maximum amount of 500€.
